Tenn. and Va.
11/08/2006 12:41:00 AM | Timothy

It looks like Tennessee is being called for the Republicans by MSNBC... I think... not sure... I don't think Chris Matthews is sure either... But now it is on the board as Republican. I wonder if they are not taking into account absentee, etc.

Allen is now saying: "The election continues...." Looks like a recount. "We're still counting votes." Sounds like he is worried. (When Republicans talk about accurately counting the vote, or being fair, they are not ahead)

Breaking news: 33000 votes uncounted in Fairfax county, a suburban area. Chris Matthews: Look good for Webb.

Update: they are saying Corker, the Republican, is the apparent winner. This is based on the math of counting all the votes. But Corker is not yet the "projected winner". Yet Ford will speak soon. MSNBC seems to be writing his obituary, talking about that racist ad.

Update:
Mike Crowley on TNR says:
"WE WON":

Jim Webb declares victory. I'd like to see a Bushie associated with the 2000 recount who cries foul over that.

TPM says:
Dem Senate candidate Jim Webb on CNN declaring victory before his supporters: "I apppreciated what Senator Allen not long ago said when he came on the news and said, `We all need to respect the process in this country, the Democratic process.' We all go out, we vote, we argue, we vote, but also I'd like to say the votes are in.

"And we won."

Webb is leading 49.43%-49.36% with 99.47% precincts reporting.
Update from Volokh:
1:52am:

With 99.69% of the precincts in, the Webb lead is growing even faster than my crude model is predicting. Webb's lead is now 4,700 votes, but my model (see below) is now prtedicting an eventual 5,700 vote margin for Webb. It will probably be nontrivially more.
