7/18/2005 08:29:00 PM | Timothy Moving the goal posts? More like another stadium The title of this post is a paragraph of what Howard Fineman said today on MSNBC's Countdown about the President's redefinition of what it takes to get fired in his administration. Andrew Sullivan posts: QUOTES OF THE DAY: "If anyone in this administration was involved in it [the improper disclosure of an undercover CIA operative's identity], they would no longer be in this administration." - Scott McClellan, September 29, 2003.Sullivan continues: I think it's possible to parse these statements as meaning the same thing. I just don't think you can and have any record deploring Bill Clinton's use of legal semantics. Dartblog's gloss on this:"As Andrew Sullivan points out, it is all semantics." Um, hello? Go back and read what Sullivan said. Update: Now THIS is some semantic parsing, and probably what Sullivan had in mind when he wrote his post. perma link |
