6/09/2004 09:00:00 PM | Richie Jay Reagan in my Neighborhood Greetings from Washington, DC. Though I now consider myself a northern Californian, I am spending the summer in Washington, DC working for an anti-hunger nonprofit. I also happen to be living down the block from the capitol. Politics aside, let me tell you this: if you ever get the chance to live here, and a state funeral for a president proceeds past your block, do take the opportunity to witness it. It is truly an awe-inspiring event, or at the very least a magnificently orchestrated production. Here are some photos I took earlier this evening: My little neighborhood suddenly finds itself overrun with people Each branch of the military is represented by a large group of marchers like these sailors Reagan's casket is rolled through the streets on a horse-drawn caisson A closer look at Reagan's casket Guns breathe fire during the 21 gun salute, actually 3 guns each fired 7 times UPDATE: I originally had them load on this page, but hpphoto.com does not allow you to link to the photos directly. Please visit this link to see 3 photos if the above do not work: http://www.hpphoto.com/servlet/com.hp.HPGuestLogin?username=richiejay&password=84950947 (Cookies must be active.) perma link |
