Friday, October 21, 2005 Intelligent Design's Creator Acknowledges In Court That It's No More Scientific Than Astrology (link)
Michael Behe, of Senior Fellow at the Discovery Institute, took the stand the other day in the Pennsylvania's Scopes Monkey Trial II. He made a number of concessions during cross examination that simply make his "scientific theory" seem like it belong on the horoscope page rather than in science classes across the country:
When asked whether his "theory" had been subject to the kind of peer review required by of theories, he responded: “I can’t point to an external community that would agree that this was well substantiated.” He's basically acknowledged that no one in the larger science community really agrees with him, which is not what proponents of this theory have been saying.
Q And using your definition, intelligent design is a 16 scientific theory, correct? 17 A Yes. 18 Q Under that same definition astrology is a 19 scientific theory under your definition, correct? 20 A Under my definition, a scientific theory is a 21 proposed explanation which focuses or points to physical, 22 observable data and logical inferences. There are many 23 things throughout the history of science which we now think 24 to be incorrect which nonetheless would fit that -- which 25 would fit that definition. Yes, astrology is in fact one,
